Louise and Lam

After a fairly hectic few weeks moving house and moving the business into new business premises (more on that soon!) I thought I would try and get up to date with my blog!

The 2009 wedding season got off to a great start on the 29th March with Louise and Lam's wedding at Cadbury House. Louise picked a really springlike theme for the wedding with zingy green bridesmaids' dresses and lovely seasonal flowers - which look fantastic in the photographs!

With eight bridesmaids to get ready in the morning, it was a hive of activity and there was plenty of excitement as well! Louise enjoyed a glass of bubbly while she had her hair and make up done and, after getting ready, Lam had a bit of time with the guys outside in the sunshine.

Both Louise and Lam looked really relaxed and happy during the ceremony and afterwards they and their guests went outside to enjoy the fine weather on the lawn.

As their guests were having drinks, we headed off for a few pictures in the grounds - making the most of the lovely sunshine! and then it was time for speeches and the wedding breakfast. Lam's speech was possibly the shortest Groom's speech I have ever heard but it was certainly to the point and got a big laugh! After dinner, Louise and Lam had a very romantic first dance and everyone let their hair down as the band started.

Fiona and Gavin

It really has turned to Winter in the last two weeks - I seem to have the heating on permanently and I am so looking forward to getting all festive in a few weeks time!

Two weeks ago, I photographed Fiona and Gavin's wedding at the Marriot Royal, College Green, in Bristol. It was a really wintry day but, luckily for Fiona, she only had to venture downstairs to have her hair done in the hotel salon, which is where I caught up with her in the morning.

Back upstairs, her bridesmaids' preparations (and several bottles of Champagne!) were in full flow and there was a bit of a party atmosphere, especially when the bacon sandwhiches arrived!

Gavin, his male entourage and I went out on to College Green for some photographs before the ceremony and then headed back inside to the beautiful Palm Court, which was decked out in candles and cream flowers.

Fiona looked stunning as she walked down the aisle on her Father's arm and the candlelit ceremony was really atmospheric. After the ceremony, Fiona and Gavin led their guests outside for a few family photographs before they enjoyed some more Champagne and canapes.

Joshua

A couple of weeks ago I caught up with Annie, Julian and baby Joshua. I last photographed Joshua back in February when he was only 11 days old so he was quite a bit bigger and had a lot more energy!

After some shots in Joshua's room, we headed out to nearby Royal Victoria Park in Bath for some photographs of Joshua and his parents in the Autumn leaves.

In a few months' time, I'll meet up with Annie, Julian and Joshua again for some Spring time photographs to mark his first birthday and the last in a year's worth of four shoots charting Joshua's first year. Louise and Jonathan

Last month I photographed Louise and Jon's wedding at Ston Easton Park. I have really enjoyed getting to know Louise and Jon and time seemed to have flown since I last met up with them during the summer!

Louise had just got back from the hairdressers when I arrived to take a few shots of her getting ready and she seemed pretty calm and relaxed for a bride to be!

I have heard it said that this year's Autumn colours are the best for 40 years and looking out of the windows at the lovely views of parkland in all directions, I would agree with that.

Jon was busy greeting guests when I met up with him downstairs and it was a nice opportunity for me to capture the general build up of excitement.

After the ceremony, Louise, Jon and their guests headed outside to enjoy the afternoon sunshine before we took some shots of them in the stunning grounds.

Vicky and James

I am behind with my blog (again!!!) after being away on holiday at the start of the month and having a really busy last couple of weeks, so I will do my best to get back on track!

Earlier in the month, I headed up to my old stomping ground of Chester, for Vicky and James' wedding in Christleton Church and the Macdonald Portal Golf Club and Spa.

When I arrived at Vicky's parents' house to take some shots of everyone getting ready, it was surprisingly calm and Vicky, her Mum, Dad and bridesmaids even had time for a civilised lunch with their glasses of champagne before putting the final touches to their preparations. Bride and Grooms to be take note - Marks and Spencer trays of prepared nibbles are clearly the way forward for this type of occasion!

Christleton Church is a particularly beautiful old building, made of rich red Cheshire stone and it made a lovely backdrop for some shots of James with his best man and ushers.

During the ceremony, one of Vicky's bridesmaids, Lauren, played the flute (quite a tricky task if you have just watched one of your best friends get married!) and Vicky and James both looked over the moon as they headed back down the aisle.

We took a few photographs outside the church and then drove over to the hotel, where Vicky and James were met with champagne and their own golf buggy! As the clouds and wind were brewing up for a storm, we headed off around the golf course straight away for some shots of Vicky and James together,including some fantastic photographs in the old ruins and then went back inside for Vicky and James to greet their guests and enjoy some more champagne.

Kirsty and Lee

On Saturday I headed into Bristol for Kirsty and Lee's wedding at the Registry Office in Corn Street. We had been a bit worried about traffic as it was the first Saturday Cabot Circus was open, but our worries proved unfounded as everyone arrived on time; Kirsty and her Dad in a gorgeous vintage open topped car - which was a bit of a traffic stopper!

After the ceremony in the beautiful Lantern Room, with its famous ceiling, we headed over to the Suspension Bridge (which looked gorgeous in the mist) and Ashton Court Mansion, for some shots on location, before heading over to Redwood Lodge to catch up with Kirsty and Lee's guests and to enjoy some late afternoon sunshine.

Last week I met up with Laura and Rob and their beautiful daughter Erin. I have really enjoyed getting to know Laura and Rob, having photographed their wedding last Spring, so it was lovely to see them again and spend a morning with them at home taking some shots of Erin with her toys.

Jude and Liam

Last Saturday I had a great time up in Hopwas for Jude and Liam's wedding.

Liam had just arrived at his local when I caught up with him to take some shots of him calming his nerves with a drink or two with friends before the ceremony. It was a sunny Autumn day and an easy walk up to the church from the pub, which was a stunning old Tudor building in a lovely setting.

Jude arrived looking stunning in a very fetching Herbie car and looked as relaxed and as happy as can be. After the ceremony, we headed off to Packington Moor Farm for their reception. The grounds at Packington are really photogenic, with old apple trees and an archway of trees, so we spent some time in the gardens to get some shots of Jude and Liam, before they enjoyed the rest of the drinks reception with their guests.

Ami and Rob

Ami and Rob chose the stunning setting of the Matara Centre in Kingscote for their wedding on Friday. They had planned their day to be an unconventional celebration with lots of little touches to make the day really personal; from the variety of pottery containers Ami had planted with fresh herbs for their table centres, to fantastic Spanish guitar music and a candlelit parade in the maze after dinner.

Ami wanted the morning to be a relaxed catch up with friends, so quite a few people popped upstairs to see her and her best woman, Helen, as they were getting ready and enjoying some Bucks Fizz. Downstairs, Rob was greeting guests who had arrived for a pre-ceremony sandwich and a cup of tea (what a great idea for guests after a journey!).

After a lovely ceremony in the Watergarden, when Ami and Rob read each other vows they had written themselves, the whole party headed out to the grounds to enjoy drinks and nibbles to the sound of some fantastic acoustic guitar music, which was a great choice given Ami's Spanish family.

After they had spent some time chatting to their guests, Ami and Rob headed off for some time together and I took some photographs of them using all the wonderful backgrounds.

Gemma and Richard

Last Saturday I headed down to the picturesque village of Steeple Ashton, for Gemma and Richard's wedding. I arrived at Gemma's parents' house to find Gemma's Dad hard at work in the garden and field after the wet weather the day before had left the field a bit of a mud bath! Some quick thinking to organise metal matting for the vehicles had saved the day!

Gemma and her bridesmaids were having a great time getting ready upstairs and had some beautiful fresh flowers for their hair. After spending some time with them, I went to meet Rich and his best man and ushers at the pub at the road for a few shots.

Steeple Ashton is a traditional little village with lovely timbered buildings and a proper village green, so we took some shots en route to the church using the gorgeous backgrounds.

The church was decked out in white lillies and orange jerberas which looked fantastic and we were lucky that the heavy rain didn't start until after we had managed to take a few shots outside the church after the ceremony.

Gemma and Richard headed off in their horse and carriage and we took a few shots on the village green, but by this time the rain had got very heavy, so we retreated inside the marquee, where guests got stuck into their champagne and canapes.

Jo and Kit

A week ago on Friday I headed over to the lovely setting of Priston Mill for Jo and Kit's wedding. Despite BBC weather warnings about heavy rain and flooding, it was dry first thing and I managed to get some shots outside with Kit and his best man Brian, who had flown over from Spain with his family to be there.

Jo arrived looking stunning in her gown, designed for her by local designer Gilly Woo (www.gillywoo.com), and after a romantic and intimate ceremony in the Water Mill, Jo and Kit relaxed with their champagne. By this point the heavens had opened so guests had their drinks inside the old mill and later on we were lucky enough to have a 5 minute break in the weather to take a few shots of Kit and Jo outside.

Nicky and Colin

I am a bit behind with my blog after a really busy couple of weeks so I will do my best to catch up over the next few days!

At the end of August, I headed up to Cannizaro House in Wimbledon, a stunning setting for Nicky and Colin's wedding. It was probably the last hot day of summer and wonderful to see such a blue sky!

Nicky and her bridesmaid Suzy were well into their preparations when I arrived for a few photographs of them getting ready. As they were finishing off their champange, I headed off to Cannizaro House to catch up with Colin.

After an intimate ceremony, guests headed out to the lovely terrace to enjoy drinks in the sunshine and later on Nicky and Colin headed off for a walk in the lovely grounds.

Inspiration for your Wedding

Following on from the success of last year's Inspiration Evening at Hunstrete House, we have decided to run one again this year, so if you or any friends or colleagues are getting married, then this will be right up your street!

The evening will be a chance to enjoying a complimentary glass of Champagne in lovely surroundings and chat to the experts about your day. Musicians will be playing live throughout the evening and award winning Popham's Restaurant will be doing a special menu (£30 for three courses). Judging by the comments we received from couples last year, it was the perfect way to spend a relaxing evening.

The evening is free - just turn up on the night and be inspired!

Emma and Stuart

I have really enjoyed getting to know Emma and Stuart over the last couple of years so I was really looking forward to their wedding on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Emma was very relaxed when I arrived where she was having her hair and make up done in Thornbury and I spent a lovely couple of hours with her and her family before heading off to Ashton Court Mansion, to catch up with Stuart.

Guests were (appropriately enough!) played into the music room at the front of the house, by a string quartet and then, after a ceremony with more than a couple of laughs from the bride and groom, we headed up to the suspension bridge for a few photographs.

It was such a nice day, the views from the grounds were fantastic and as guests enjoyed champagne and music on the lawn, Emma and Stuart had a walk around the lovely gardens while I took some photographs of them. It was obvious to everyone how much they enjoyed their day and they are currently in the middle of a month long extravaganza of a honeymoon!

Helen and Luke

Despite another summer of rain, it was great timing that a bit of summer weather finally arrived this weekend for a one off sunny bank holiday weekend!

On Saturday I headed up to Gloucestershire for Helen and Luke's wedding in Hardwicke. Helen and her bridesmaids were busy having the finishing touches done to their hair and make up when I arrived to take a few shots of them getting ready. With only half an hour to go before they had to leave, they were all surprisingly calm - which is fairly unusual!

After the church service, guests wandered up the road to Luke's parents' house for the reception. When I first saw it a few weeks ago, I thought what a perfect wedding venue it was and Helen and Luke had put an enormous amount of effort into making the marquee and grounds look fantastic.

Helen and Luke and their guests enjoyed pimms and canapes in the lovely grounds and then we headed over to a nearby cornfield to take a few shots of them together.

Laura and Nick

On Saturday I headed up to the Cotswolds for Laura and Nick's wedding in Luckington. It was hard to believe it was August, with strong rain and wind, but luckily the rain stopped just long enough for some shots outside the lovely rectory where Laura and her bridesmaids were getting ready.

After the ceremony the heavens decided to open again, so we headed off to the reception at Chavenage House so guests could get inside and have a glass of bubbly by the fire. Luckily, it did stop raining long enough to take some lovely shots of Laura and Nick in the grounds.

Catherine and Brian

I was reading an article in the paper on Friday about the significance of the date 08.08.08, which is apparently a very lucky date in many cultures, particularly for the Chinese, who chose it for the date of the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Apart from anything else, Catherine and Brian definately got lucky with the weather on Friday for their wedding at Thornbury Castle and the forecast showery rain didn't materialise all day!

They had a small, intimate ceremony for close family and friends, in the candlelit lounge, before heading out on to the lawn for pimms and olives. Looking relaxed and happy, they enjoyed drinks with their guests before we took some shots using Thornbury's lovely grounds.

Jo and Len

Jamie and I have just got back from a fantastic long weekend near Murcia in Spain. Our friends Maria and Ollie got married on Saturday in traditional Spanish style - with celebrations (involving an unbelievable quantity of food and wine!) that lasted at least 48 hours! I will post some pictures up if I get chance so watch this space.

In the meantime, last weekend, I photographed Jo and Len's wedding at the Park in Wick. On Sunday morning I headed over to Jo and Len's house, in nearby Stockwood, to get some shots with Jo and her eight (yes eight!) bridesmaids getting ready. As you can imagine, the house was busy with hairdressing and make up in full swing when I arrived and after some shots inside, we had some time to take a few in the garden.

Then it was on to The Park in Wick, to catch up with Len and the guys before Len's meeting with the registrar. Jo, her family and bridesmaids made quite an entrance in two stretch limos and I think we just managed to avoid Len seeing Jo before the ceremony!

After the ceremony (when there were only a few dry eyes!) Jo, Len and their guests headed outside to enjoy the sunshine and have some photographs in the grounds.

Amy and Nick

Amy and Nick were so lucky on Saturday and probably had the sunniest and warmest Saturday of the year so far!

They chose the lovely countryside setting of Wapley church for their ceremony and went on to Egypt Mill in Nailsworth for their reception.

After some shots at home with Amy and her bridesmaids, I went on to the church, by which time it was really hot! - so I took some shots with Nick his two best men and usher using a shady part of the churchyard before they retreated indoors to the cool!

Amy arrived looking relaxed and happy and they both seemed to really enjoy the ceremony.

Glasses of chilled pimms were ready for their arrival at Egypt Mill and we took some shots in the Mill grounds, before they greeted their guests.

Kathryn and Adam

Last Saturday I headed up to the Cotswolds for Kathryn and Adam's wedding at the Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury.

I arrived to find an extremely well organised set up (including walkie talkies!) and everyone's preparations well under way.
Kathryn and her family were getting ready in one cottage, while Adam and the boys had taken over a different cottage and I spent some time going between the two to capture all the preparations.

The ceremony in the barn had a really personal feel with lots of singing (and a few dance moves from Adam!) and the class Adam teaches at school performing a surprise song as they walked back down the aisle.

Guests enjoyed drinks on the lawn while listening to the strong quartet and - for some - a game of giant connect 4!

Sally and Richard

Sally and Richard had a fairytale summer wedding at Orchardleigh House last Friday.

After a very wet start to the day, the skies soon cleared and brought some welcome sunshine and warmth. Sally and her bridesmaids Briony and Elisssa had their hair and make up done while enjoying a glass of champange and admiring the beautiful bracelet Richard has given Sally as a present.

The church at Orchardeigh couldn't be in a more romantic setting, in a secluded woodland at the edge of the estate, next to the river and approached over a little bridge, which Sally had decided to decorate with ribbons.

After a really intimate candle lit ceremony in the tiny church, we headed back to the main house for some photographs on the terrace and for guests to enjoy a drink and admire the view.

Annabelle and Harry

I am a bit behind with my blog (again!!!) after a very busy couple of weeks, so I'll do my best to catch up.

On Saturday 5th July, I headed off down to the south coast for Annabelle and Harry's wedding in Winterbourne Zelzton church and on to the Harbour Heights Hotel in Sandbanks.

Annabelle was getting ready with her niece, Charlotte, as I arrived in time for a coffee, before taking some shots of Annabelle and Charlotte in the conservatory. Then it was off to the church to catch up with a very relaxed Harry, his best man and ushers. Despite very black clouds, the rain held off during the service and afterwards, so we spent some time in the lovely grounds of the church, which was by a little brook, lined with weeping willows - very romantic!

Annabelle's father's other pride and joy (other than Annabelle!)- Betsy the red Morgan, was parked up for some photographs and then we headed off to the beach for a few shots of Annabelle and Harry. By this time the wind had really picked up and it was more like winter than summer, so a big thank you to Annabelle and Harry for braving the wind for a few minutes! By the time we arrived at the Harbour Heights, the heavens opened, but it wasn't a problem as everyone was glad to sit with a drink and enjoy the lovely bar area with its views across the bay.

Annabelle and Harry had asked me to stay through the meal to photograph the speeches, so I tucked in to a delicious wedding breakfast with gusto! The speeches were very entertaining and, in the case of the best man, there had clearly been a lot of work to produce an alphabetical slideshow charting some more interesting sides to the groom. Harry - your secrets are safe with me!

Annabelle and Harry are away on a fantastically exotic holliday taking in several islands in the Indian Ocean - I hope you have a wonderful time guys and I'll look forward to seeing you when you get back.

Natalie and Stephen

Last weekend was a fairly busy weekend for me, with two weddings to photograph. On Friday, I drove up the Cotswolds, for Natalie and Stephen's wedding at Kingscote Barn.

Natalie and her bridesmaids Mel and Annabelle were busy getting ready, but still managed to have time to sit down for some lunch and a glass of two of bubbly. Natalie's sister, Annabelle, did her make up for her and put some fresh sweet peas in her hair, which went with the overal flower theme for the day.

Stephen didn't look at all nervous and he and Natalie seemed to really enjoy the ceremony, before heading out on to the terrace to greet their guests and enjoy some champagne.

Jo and Wes - 28.06.08

On Saturday I headed down to the idyllic village of Stoke Trister, in the heart of the countryside, for Jo and Wes' wedding.

Jo was getting ready with her bridesmaids Amy and Vanessa and her Mum and enjoying a glass of champagne, while she had her hair and make up done. The house was a hive of activity, with the finishing touches being done to the marquee and a very efficient parking scheme in operation!

Meeting up with Wes at the church, he told me they had had a bit of a panic getting locked out of the house, but everything had been sorted out (I had a feeling it might have been mentioned later on in the speeches though!).

After a lovely service, Jo, Wes and their guests headed back to enjoy the reception in the grounds of Jo's dad's house, which was a perfect setting.

Louise and Matthew - 20.06.08

Louise and Matthew's wedding on Friday at Eastwoodlands Church and Orchardleigh House, was a lovely mix of a traditional English wedding, with splashes of bright pink and little touches which made the day really personal.

I set off on Friday morning for Louise's parents' house, where Louise put the final touches to her preparations after having had her hair and make up done earlier in the morning. Unusually, everyone was very calm and had time to sit down to a family lunch, which I don't often see as it's often a mad rush to get everyone, including two children, ready!

The ceremony was in an idyllic spot in a country church and Louise and Matthew couldn't stop looking at each other throughout the service. The forecast rain just started as we left the church and, fortunately, cleared just long enough for us to take some fantastic shots in the grounds at Orchardleigh, before retreating indoors.

Lucy and Richard - 14.06.08

Last Saturday I photographed Lucy and Richard's wedding, at a lovely local venue, Coombe Lodge in Blagdon. I have photographed a number of weddings there over the past few years and I always find the grounds a delight for photographs - with the fantastic setting over Blagdon Lake.

I have really enjoyed getting to know Lucy and Richard since we first met last Spring and they have had lots of enthusiam and ideas for their big day. Richard is a cricket nut - and this definately came across, as after the wedding, they made a trip down to Blagdon cricket pitch to see Rich's team playing!

Alison and Dan

I had been keeping my fingers crossed all week, that after all the rain, last Saturday would turn out fine. In the end it was so hot and sunny I resorted to my factor 25 - for the first time this year!

Alison and Dan's wedding in Thornbury, was at an idyllic little church right out in the country lanes - which was a great spot for their vintage Austin Heally sports car to pull up. After the ceremony we went on to Tortworth Court for guests to enjoy drinks on the lawn and, for Alison and Dan, a chance to enjoy some time together in the lovely grounds.

Kathryn and Adam

I had a great time on Friday up in the Cotswolds with Kathryn and Adam, who are getting married next month at the Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury.

Family Fun!

As promised, here is the first instalment of half term holiday shoots - the wonderful Dodds family who had a lifestyle shoot on Friday.

William and Rosie had great fun playing in their wendy house and William showed me his impressive tree climbing skills! After some squash and gormet chocolate biscuits we headed off to the park at the end of the road and enjoyed some games on the slide!

Jessica and Paul - 26 April 2008

Last Saturday I had a lovely day photographing Jessica and Paul's wedding in Stoke Bishop and their reception, in one of my favourite local venues, Hunstrete House.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and Jess and her family were enjoying a glass of champage when I arrived to take some shots of their preparations.

Everyone was surprisingly calm and relaxed (which is not always the case!) and we had time for a few shots on the lawn (with the ladies managing an elegant tip toe walk so as not to sink in to the grass in their heels!) before I went on to the church to take some shots of Paul, his best man and ushers.

After the ceremony, we headed out to Hunstrete House. Guests enjoyed drinks on the lawn while Jessica and Paul enjoyed a quiet walk around the grounds for a few shots and then joined them for some champagne.

A Moving Experience

I was invited to attend the Jessie May Trust's Supporter's Reception at the Council House in Bristol yesterday. After I had drunk several cups of tea, had a bit of a chat (and a very nice piece of chocolate cake!) I wandered around looking at the display boards, showing what the charity has achieved with all the money raised in the last year. I found I got very absorbed reading a number of little stories about the families the Jessie May nurses help on a day to day basis and what a difference their help makes.

If you don't know the charity, Jessie May supports about 30 families locally, who have a terminally ill child. The trust's nurses enable the parents to take some time out from what is often 24/7 care, either to catch up with some housework, go and do some shopping, spend some time with their other children, or just have a rest. The nurses can also visit the children in their care if they go into hospital to help brighten up their experience and be a familiar and friendly face during a stressful and worrying time.

It really struck me how impossibly hard it would be to manage without any support and what a truely fantastic organisation the trust is. I think it makes a real difference to the families they support and a genuine lifeline.

The Precious Time Appeal was lauched last year and so far about half the money has been raised but there is still a long way to go. If you would like to read more about the apeal and the work of Jessie May, just paste this link into your browser:

Gemma and Dan - Friday 11 April 2008

What a gorgeous day we had last Friday for Gemma and Dan's wedding in Hutton village church. There is a lovely romantic story behind Gemma and Dan's marriage and it all started with them meeting on Weston pier (some years ago!) when they both had jobs there - Dan working on the Ghost Train and Gemma selling ice cream!

After the ceremony, we headed over to the pier for some lovely shots to bring back those memories in the sunshine. Driving my car along the pier was a first for me and a bit nerve racking - but thanks to Dan's sister Camilla, who had organised everything, it all went like clockwork and Gemma and Dan even got a mention over the tannoy as they enjoyed their champage!

Gemma and Dan then enjoyed drinks with their guests to the sound of a very special string quartet of pupil's from Gemma's school before sitting down to their wedding breakfast at the Batch Country Hotel, Lympsham.

Memory Lane in Sunny Weston!

I have been to Weston Super Mare 3 times in as many weeks and I always seem to have clear blue skies and sunshine, which is fantastic. This week was no exception when I went to the pier with my bride and groom for tomorrow's wedding; Gemma and Dan, to have a look around.

Gemma and Dan are real life childhood sweethearts, having met at the age of 16 when Dan was working on the Ghost Train and Gemma was selling ice cream! We had a really nice wander around the pier and even paid a quick visit to the Ghost Train, which apparently is just the same!

A day at the beach!

What a fantastic few days of gorgeous weather we've just had. It really feels like Spring is here and fortunately for me, it all began on Sunday with clear blue skies and lots of sunshine, for the Weddings Magazine shoot in Weston Super Mare.

Despite the early start after the clocks going forward, everyone looked wide awake and raring to go. I doubt Weston has ever seen such an action packed few hours before; from candy floss, buckets and spades, games of beach ball, rides on trains to swings and donkeys - we did it all! I even returned home with a shiny new bucket and spade!

Keep your eyes peeled for the magazine, which comes out next month. In the meantime, here are a few shots which sum up the day. A big thank you to my models, Nicky, Imogen, Mimi and Sarah, Jamie (my wonderful husband!) and our friend Sam, who put in a guest appearance. Huge thank yous also to Harry, Diane, Jacqui and everyone else involved in the day.

Kati and Ed - 22 March 2008

I have just had a fantastic weekend enjoying the sunshine and having a great time doing a shoot for the summer edition of Weddings Magazine (more on that later this week).

I can't really go on to talk about this weekend without mentioning Kati and Ed's stunning wedding last Saturday at Clifton College Chapel. I think by the time Kati had arrived, we had already had two or three snow showers and then the sun miraculously put in an appearance and we had a beautiful bly sky!

Afterwards we went on to The Park, in Wick, which is a sumptuous blend of lovely architecture and fantastic modern design. Kati and Ed braved the cold, for some shots in the maze garden before heading in to enjoy their champage.

Isabel and Barry - 15 March 2008

Isabel and Barry's wedding at Coombe Lodge last Saturday was a really fantastic day. Despite the rain, there was a great atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves (and in the case of most of the men - propping up the bar during the six nations!).

We took some group shots outside during a brief break in the rain and, once the heavens had opened again, managed to get some great shots with a colour coordinated brolley!

Later on after the meal, we were treated to a spot of dirty dancing (with clearly a bit of practising beforehand!) which was a great end to the day.

Katherine and James - 14 March 2008

Katherine and James chose the stunning Guildhall in Bath for their civil ceremony and decided to have an intimate dinner for their closest family and friends at the Wheatsheaf in Combe Hay afterwards (one of my favourite dinner spots!).

We also took the opportunity to take some photographs on location using the stunning setting of the grounds beneath the Royal Cresent, the Royal Crescent itself and the Abbey courtyard.

Despite rain all morning, everyone was in good humour and luckily the rain cleared to leave a lovely afternoon with beautiful soft light - photography heaven!

Zoe and Alan - 23 February 2008

I have been so busy recently that I have neglected by blog dreadfully so I am going to try and catch up!

On Saturday 23rd February, I drove down to Orchardleigh House, for Alan and Zoe's wedding. Zoe and Alan have been a great couple to get to know and I know how much hard work went into to planning their day. A zingy purple was the main colour scheme and I thought it worked really well for the time of year. Zoe was having a relaxing time upstairs getting ready with some champange when I arrived so it was nice to spend some time with her and her family. Alan and his best man and usher were also quite relaxed so we nipped outside for a few shots before the ceremony. By the time we came in. everything was set up in the dining room and it looked spectacular.

The open fires provided a cosy and welcoming site for guests coming in from the cold and by the time everyone was sat down it was quite toasty!

Afterwards, we used Orchardleigh's beautiful grounds for some photographs before Zoe and Alan and their guests sat down for their meal.

On Thursday I had a great time photographing the Wexler family in their beautiful home in Amesbury, near Paulton. Despite the day being very windy, we made the most of the lovely setting and soft light and took some shots in a few different spots in their garden.

A Very Special Portrait Shoot

I was delighted to take some pictures of little baby Joshua on Wednesday last week. Only 13 days old, Joshua was a fantastic model and it was a real pleasure to see such a tiny baby very happily in the arms of his new parents, Annie and Julian. They are a lovely little family and it was a real privilege for me to spend some time with them.

A very well behaved cat and a lot of leg wax! - Friday 8th February

Friday was quite a busy (and varied!) day for me - starting with a pet portrait in the morning of Mrs H - a lovely cat who seemed to love posing for her picture!

I then spent a couple of hours at the Jessie May Trust's HQ photographing a number of very brave men (including Jamie my husband and his colleaague Huw) bearing their legs for a thorough leg waxing.

Alex Lovell from Points West was on hand to reassure nervous participants and several of the Jessie May team couldn't wait to get stuck in (literally!) with their wax strips.

The amount raised was still rising as I left but it looked likely to be at least £1,200, which is fantastic. Thank you to Jane and the rest of the team for a lot of laughs and a lovely lunch.

Vicky and Duncan

My first wedding of the year, Saturday dawned a bright, crisp day for Vicky and Duncan's wedding in Axebridge. I had kept my fingers crossed that the promised snow wouldn't arrive and fortunately it didn't!

Axebridge is a lovely setting for a wedding as the church sits on the hillside above the old market square. It was a great spot to meet up with Duncan, his best man and ushers for some photographs while we were waiting for the guests to arrive.

The ceremony was a real highlight for me - the church has beautiful lighting and a gorgeous archway, which was a natural frame for many of the images I took during the service. Weddings can be emotional (even for photographers!) and there wasn't dry in the church when Duncan's Grandfather sang to the congregation, while Vicky and Duncan signed the registers.

Afterwards we travelled down to Lympsham for the reception at the Batch Country Hotel. Vicky and Duncan had used a lovely deep red theme throughout the day, which was a great choice for this time of year. They carried the scheme through from the bridesmaids' dresses, flowers and other details at the church to the stationary and table details at the reception. It was obvious that the wedding planners, Nicky and Robbie at Amazing Events, had been hard at work as the hotel looked spectacular (www.amazingweddings.co.uk).

Happy New Year!

Most of January seems to have passed by in a blur already. After a lovely week of winter sunshine in La Palma over New Year, I headed off to the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers' annual convention in London for a non stop week of talks, seminars and a huge tradeshow.

The convention is a great way to kick start the year for me and it is a fantastic opportunity to hear some of the best photographers in the world speak about how they work and go about creating some amazing images.

I always come away feeling really inspired and with lots of ideas for the coming wedding season - so watch this space!

Antonia and Gareth

Antonia and Gareth have been a lovely couple to get to know, since I first met them at the beginning of the year. We had a great afternoon in the Autumn, with their two mums; Margaret and Marilyn planning the photography and having tea.

Their big day dawned bright and clear as I headed off to Antonia and Gareth's home in Long Ashton, where Antonia was getting ready. Antonia's mum Margaret, who had designed all the beautiful stationary, helped her get ready, along with her bridesmaids and as I left, they were all tucking into the champagne!

The church looked very festive, with the crib and Christmas decorations still fresh from Christmas Day and Antonia and Gareth looked very happy and (in Antonia's case!) serene during the whole service.

We had chance to get some lovely shots outside Cadbury House before the heavens opened and it was time to reatreat inside.

Bea and Graham

With a Christmas feeling very much still in the air, I photographed Bea and Graham's wedding on Thursday at Dunkerton Church and Priston Mill.

Dunkerton is an idyllic little village and home to Graham's family so it was a really personal place to have their wedding. Bea and Graham had a guard of honour outside the church, made up of their friends from the RAF, who were all dressed in their finery.

By the time we got to Priston Mill, it was getting pretty dark, but there was still time for some lovely photographs in the grounds with some mulled wine to keep Bea and Graham warm, before heading inside.

Lorraine and Mick

Mick and Lorraine's wedding on Saturday, at Clifton College in Bristol, had a really Christmassy feel to it. Lorraine had chosen a stunning purple and yellow coloured theme for the flowers and decorations and their cake was a fantastic iced mountainside to reflect their love of walking and climbing!

We used the college grounds to take a variety of shots using the architecture as backgrounds. Before long the temperature had really dropped and we retreated inside for Mick and Lorraine to warm up and enjoy a glass of champagne.

Elaine and Mark

Saturday was, unofficially at least, the wettest day of the year, but the awful weather didn't dampen spirits for Elaine and Mark's wedding in Henbury, Bristol. As it was so wet, we took all the photographs inside the church and actually getting Elaine to the door of the church was a feat of navigating the lashing rain and huge puddles!

After the ceremony, we travelled to Cadbury House, by which time the rain had cleared, leaving the most amazing light and making the most of the lovely views towards the coast. We spent a bit of time outside, taking shots in the grounds and then, as it was so cold, took the rest of the relaxed photographs of guests inside.

Suzy and Phil

I have really enjoyed getting to know Suzy and Phil and spent a particularly nice afternoon with them doing a shoot around the Bristol waterfront area earlier in the year. They spent a long time planning the wedding with meticulous detail and this really showed on the day.

They booked the cosy and intimate Close Hotel, in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, for their wedding and reception and concentrated on beautifully designed stationary and stunning flowers to personalise their day.

Suzy spent a relaxing morning having her hair and make up done while Phil greeted guests and enjoyed a fireside drink in the hotel bar. The rain was very heavy in the morning, but cleared in the afternoon for long enough to be able to take some lovely shots in the hotel gardens.

Kenya and Tanzania - November 2007

Jamie had I booked three weeks out for November earlier in the year, but we just couldn't decide where we wanted to go. After an evening with travel magazines spread out over the living room and a bottle of Shiraz handy to make decision making easier, we had only managed to narrow the list down to the top 20 destinations!

What finally clinched it, was a trip we had to Kenya 3 years ago, which we absolutely loved; for the fantastic scenery, wildlife, beautiful beaches and overall wow factor. This time, we decided to see more of the country by spending the first two weeks travelling around Kenya and then fly out to Zanzibar for a week of diving and chilling out on the beach.

A hotchpotch of different cultures, sights, smells and tastes, a few days in Nairobi was a fantastic chance to get over our jet lag and catch up with Jamie's friend Sam, who is living and working out in Nairobi for a couple of years. From there, we went on to a stunning reserve in the foothills of the mist covered and atmospheric Mount Kenya. The lodge we stayed at had a watering hole for a variety of animals from zebra, giraffe, buffalo, rhino and elephants, less than 200 yards from our breakfast spot. For once, we were not sure we were the ones eating the most for breakfast. There was also an interesting moment, when the wildlife was literally on our doorstep, with an enthusiastic baboon trying to get into our tent!

From there, we drove through the Great Rift Valley and on to the Masai Mara for 3 days of hard core animal watching and enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of a lodge right in the middle of the park. We saw some unforgettable and truely breathtaking sights of whole prides of lions basking in the sunshine, huge herds of bufallo around the Mara River and, a highlight for me, a week old baby elephant being taught how to use his trunk by a very patient mother.

Our next stop, Lake Nakuru, was unforgettable for the sheer number of birds feeding on the shores - literally millions and millions of varieties of flamingos, pelicans and other birds.

By the time we reached Zanzibar, we felt we had deserved a rest and fairly quickly got into a routine of lazing around and enjoying a sundowner each evening, from the comfort of our sunloungers. We were lucky enough to the the only guests staying at a new boutique hotel, Echo Beach, in picture postcard Bweju, on the south east of the island. We were treated to fabulous food and hospitaility generally and can thoroughly recommend it as a fantastic spot for a holiday.

Becky and Pete

Becky and Pete's wedding at Priston Mill, in the rolling hills just outside Bath, was a warm and welcoming setting for a winter wedding on a crisp day.

I spent the morning at the Queensbury Hotel in Bath, where Becky and her family had stayed the evening before. Becky and I had a quick taxi ride to Jolly's for Becky to have her make up done, before going back to the hotel for the finishing touches to her preparations.

Becky knew that Pete had arranged a surprise for her and she was clearly overwhelmed and delighted when a horse drawn carriage drew up to take her down to the Mill.

Becky and Pete's candlelit ceremony was beautiful and moving and, with guests wearing dinner jackets, the atmophere was sophisticated and elegant, yet contemporary.

Becky and Pete are a very soulful couple and we shot some romantic images using the mill and the horses as a background. They then tucked into mulled wine with gusto when we went back inside, while I captured the guests enjoying themselves.

Branca and Jonathan

The stunning, fairytale like setting of St Audries Park, Somerset, was the perfect backdrop for Branca and Jon's wedding on Sunday. Both actors, their wedding day very much reflected their style and flair with Branca's beautiful lace gown, a horse drawn carriage and sumptuous food and entertainment.

Branca and Jon had both a civil ceremony and a church blessing, giving me lots of opportunities for shots of them saying their vows and guests' emotions. After the services, the evening sunshine was a lovely light to use for their family shots and a few of the two of them together enjoying a wander around the grounds and a game of croquet.

Amanda and Tim

Amanda and Tim chose the beautiful countryside setting of Kingscote Barn in the Cotswolds, for their Autumn wedding. Amanda and her friends had spent Friday night having a girly evening in a nearby cottage, but were still up early to have their hair and make up done and some photographs of them getting ready.

Tim, the boys and I braved the rain to take some shots outside and then we gladly retreated in to the barn while the guests arrived. Even though the rain didn't really let up all day, we got some really lovely shots outside and I know Amanda, Tim and their guests thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Lifestyle portraiture is all about using whatever backgrounds might be available and seeing things in a different way - today for example we shot everywhere from the lawn to the horse box!

Sarah and Matthew

Sarah, Matthew and I spent a lovely afternoon at the kendleshire Golf and Country Club, enjoying the late summer sunshine, back in September. The sun was shining again for their wedding on Saturday and it was a perfect day to enjoy the lovely grounds and, for me, my first ride on a golf buggy!

After an early start to take some photographs of Matt on the golf course (Matt making sure I recorded his swing at its best!) I went on to Sarah's parents house for some getting ready shots. The wedding itself was intimate and romantic and everyone could tell what a great couple Sarah and Matt are.

Svetlana and Harry

Lyme Regis is a very special place for Harry and Svetlana as Harry has a lot of memories playing on the beach as a child and his parents still live there. They chose to have a ceremony in the beautiful church overlooking the bay and their reception at the Alexandra Hotel up on the seafront.

We decided to take most of the pictures on the seafront and include a number of different coloured backgrounds tp give their album a seaside feel.

SS Great Britain Shoot for Beautiful Brides Magazine

Visitors aboard the SS Great Britain must have seen many sights over the years. On Saturday they were treated to a fashion shoot courtesy of Beautiful Brides magazine. Nearly 30 dresses, two models, two stylists and one photographer, it was a non stop day of photographs using lots of different backgrounds on the ship and surrounding area.

There aren't many more picturesque settings than Compton Dando Church and Chew Valley lake, the setting for Vicky and Martin's wedding on Saturday. As Vicky's parents are my next door neighbours, it was probably the shortest journey I have ever made to a wedding! After a very wet start, the rain gave way to a bright afternoon and we managed to take most of the pictures by the lake, with all the Autumn colours as a stunning backdrop.

What a treat - a long weekend in Cornwall for Nicky and Drew's wedding at the famous Horn of Plenty in the Tamar Valley.

With four bridesmaids, the mother of the bride and the bride to have their hair and make up done, it was an early start at Nicky's house for some shots of the girls getting ready. By 10am the champagne was flowing and there was an incredible sense of excitment in the air.

After a beautiful and romantic service in their local church, Nicky and Drew and their guests headed off to enjoy a glass of pimms on the terrace of the hotel, with its breathtaking views, before sitting down to a fantastic meal.

Fashion Shoot for Folio Magazine

Today was an action packed day shooting on location in Park Street's Goldbrick House. A relatively new venue for weddings and events, Goldbrick has a stylish and relaxed atmosphere and, if you are enjoying the sunshine on the roof terrace, it is difficult to believe you are just off one of the busiest streets in Bristol.

Thank you to my fabulous models Maria and Tony, who both worked very hard all day (and didn't get to drink quite all the champagne!) and to Rachel, the stylist and Editor. Keep your eyes peeled for the shoot, in the October edition of Folio.

It is not often that I have the chance to take a set of photographs in such a magical place as I did on Saturday. The Roccoco Gardens in Painswick, Gloucestershire, was a beautiful backdrop for a shoot to mark Neasha's 18th birthday. Neasha enjoyed having her make up done by professional make up artist Clare Bryce from Pure Pamering (www.purepampering.co.uk). We then took a variety of images using the gardens and the stunning September light.

September can be such a lovely month with gorgeous light and lots of opportunities for great images. Friday was no exception as Marcus and I waited in the sunshine for Catherine to arrive for their ceremony at Bristol Registry Office. Cutting it very fine, Catherine's car screeched to a halt, after being stuck in traffic and after a speedy entrance, the ceremony was underway.

Catherine and Marcus wanted their album to have a really contemporary and colourful feel so many of their images after the ceremony were taken around the floating harbour and @Bristol areas. Guests then moved on to the Queen's Square Bar for drinks and canapes followed by a meal at Byzantium. Here, I was sorely tempted to cut myself a piece of wedding cake early, as it smelled so chocolately, but I managed to resist!

Rachael and Paul

I have really enjoyed getting to know Rachael and Paul over the last two years. We have kept in touch throughout the planning of their wedding and recently I went up to spend an afternoon with them at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire, the stunning medieval setting for their wedding.

I expect Paul is glad that sticking purple skeleton leaves on things is now a thing of the past, but all their hard work paid off on Saturday when I photographed their wedding. Rachael was a demon walker in her Jimmy Choos, a skill I can only admire, as we took most of their photographs around the lake infront of the house.

On Friday I drove up to the Cotswolds for Vikki and Paul's wedding in Cranham and the Great Tythe Barn at Tetbury. Preparations were well under way when I arrived and the weather was so nice we were able to take some pictures in the garden. I loved Vikki's flowers as she had asked for rosemary to be mixed in with roses and I thought the bouquets looked (and smelled!) gorgeous. Their ceremony was held in the tiny and very picturesque village of Cranham and by the time we reached the Great Tythe Barn, Vikki and Paul were able to enjoy a glass of champage in the sunshine.

On Saturday I headed off into Clifton for Sarah and Mark's wedding at the Avon Gorge Hotel. I have been going to the terrace at the Avon Gorge since I was a student in Bristol 10 years ago and it brought back a lot of happy memories to see Mark with his best man enjoying a pint when I arrived. Sarah's preparations centered around enjoying champage and chocolates with her bridesmaids while everyone had their hair and make up done and, as always, the time seemed to disappear before it was time for the ceremony and some photographs near the suspension bridge.

Polly and Tom chose the beautiful church in Newton St Loe and the romantic setting of Ston Easton Park for their wedding on 31 August 2007. Highlights of the day for me, were meeting up with with Pollly and her bridesmaids enjoying a champagne breakfast, the romantic and moving ceremony and some fantastic live music as the guests enjoyed their drinks outside.
